PageStreet Publishing Co.

 Instructions

1 - Based upon the jobs you looked at and the requested skills of each, identify a piece you have previously created that you could improve to show you possess the skills being requested, or create a new project to show that you have the skills the employer is looking for.

2 - Create a blog post about this project: who is the audience, what is the message, and what are you hoping to accomplish with the piece, what design decisions did you make, and why you made each one?

If you haven't read my first post, please give it a read! But what I wanted to start off with this piece is that it is a new piece for my projects. A lot of my style revolves around modern and emotional pieces. I didn't have a lot that I could revise around. But with this specific role with PageStreet Publishing, I felt that a new piece was well needed for what they were asking for. To start us off, a lot of what they asked for is help in their social media department, and a lot of what they suffered with is the lack of interest in their posts. So with this in mind, I got straight to work.

To begin with my piece, I started off with a single color background, but I wanted a color that represented the actual company that I wanted to work for, so I went to their website to find their color palette. While it wasn't very vast, I found a great color to work off of, and with the first step of the design process, I was very quick to add more. But to be very honest, I didn't really know what to do when it came to this type of post, so I researched so more on what their mission was, and then an idea sparked into my head. That idea being to add their own published books that they have, and with this I started gathering multiple covers of the various books they offer, and made them into a somewhat scattered pile while still leaving some room for creation.

Which very much leads us to the second half of the process. While I had a foundation built, I needed some structure to my image, something to actually lead us in the direction of what they wanted. So I went to looking for some more inspiration on what to add to the piece, and I came across their slogan, and it all clicked together.

The second half of the process starts off with the slogan or little tagline that they have on their website. this is "Inspiring readers to do the things they LOVE better." This was an excellent subject to add to the overall piece and is what I basically revolved my whole project around. With this I also needed to add where the heck are you even going to find these books in the first place, and here comes the companies name and logo to tie it all together, again I wanted to look further into the brand identity guide to make sure I was within limitations to place the logo and name the way I did, and with some little research I was in the clear. By adding the logo and finding the correct font to use it all added up very nicely.

But I was very unsatisfied with the current look of what I had, and I wanted to see if I could try to spice up and make the image very much stand out from what they had, and like a wise man once told me, 'When and doubt, level it out', and level it out I did.

To finally conclude the process of the piece, I decided to make some adjustments, some nice little hints to add to the project. While I did add some levels and some curves, it didn't really give me the right look to it, so I wanted to make sure that what we were looking at is where our eyes lead to, so I made a vignette effect to further add to the point I wanted to veer everyone to. While adding some nice little pieces to the background, that being some paper scattered cutouts that I oriented all around the opening in the middle to give off the "creation/creativity" feel to the whole piece.
