Creativity Exercise - week 3

Hey y’all, welcome back to another weekly blog. This time I wanted to play with an exercise that takes the ordinary and gives it a whole new spin. The prompt is simple but fun: pick an everyday item, re imagine how it could be used, and then build a whole business idea around it complete with a name. It’s basically turning the stuff sitting on your desk or in your kitchen into the next big startup. But without all the nonsense out of the way let me show you what I got:

1. The Umbrella That Never Rests

  • Re envisioned use: Instead of just keeping you dry, this umbrella doubles as a portable shade tent and pop-up privacy booth. Need to escape the sun at the park? Need a quick personal bubble for a call? Boom, done.

  • Business name: CloudCover Co.

  • A lifestyle brand that sells multi-mood umbrellas to city commuters and park loungers alike.

2. The Coffee Mug with a Mind of Its Own

  • Re envisioned use: This mug doesn’t just hold coffee it keeps your drink at the exact temperature you like and syncs with your phone to remind you when it’s time for a refill.

  • Business name: SipSmart

  • Marketed to work-from-home warriors and office go-ers, all in all its for the people that need a mug that cares about them more than anyone ever.

3. The Backpack That Works Overtime

  • Re envisioned use: Beyond carrying your stuff, this backpack has built-in solar panels to charge your devices and a mini pull-out desk surface for working anywhere.

  • Business name: NomadPack

  • Aimed at students, digital nomads, and travelers, it’s the brand that promises a quality product for those that need to work, wander, and explore.

This exercise is one of those that sneaks up on you. At first, it feels goofy, But once you start stretching your imagination, you realize how many everyday items could be flipped into something way more exciting. It’s a great reminder that innovation doesn’t always mean inventing something brand new. Sometimes it just means looking at what’s already in front of you and asking, what else could this be. It was a real eye opener for not only these type of exercises, but just in my general life, and my design life.

But like all of these blogs, it has to come to a close. But like always, ill see you guys. On the next one! 👋
