The sudden downpour

 Instructions

Design Your Own Story Arc: Choose a medium (e.g. a short comic strip or a 1-minute animation) and sketch out a complete story arc. Begin by defining the exposition (who, where), then identify a conflict or inciting incident that kicks off the rising action. Plan a clear climax – the high point of tension or emotion – and a resolution that gives closure. Pay attention to your emotional arc: under each segment of your outline, note how you want the audience to feel (curious, excited, anxious, relieved, etc.). Create a simple storyboard or outline illustrating each phase of the arc. Afterward, review it to see if the character undergoes any change (a mini character arc) and if a theme is suggested by the end. This exercise will help you practice constructing a narrative with a beginning, middle, and end that work together to impact the audience.

In this Exercise I create short comic strips of my stick man characters. This story is more of a relatable story for a lot of us. Which is why I kept the whole story to begin with, I started off with a lot of ideas for this exercise, and that is why I went through at least 4 scrapped ideas before I landed on this one.

This exercise was not only the first of many that I've drawn solely on Photoshop with a pen and tablet that I got recently. But also a little way to actually get myself into drawing more with Photoshop and creating more works like this.

To begin with our story, we have our character strolling through his neighborhood, until a sudden downpour starts. Checking in his bag that he has with him, he suddenly realizes that he didn't bring a backup umbrella for cases like this, but it isn't until a miracle happens when a store if open in the downpour, but not only with a for sale umbrella. Looking at the cheap price for the umbrella, he realizes he can continue is amazing walk through his neighborhood with his brand spanking new umbrella.

Challenges:

This exercise was a ton of fun, not only due to the fact that I get to use my new tablet, but also due to the challenges I face along the way, creating this comic strip. First off with drawing on a tablet is way different to drawing on paper for me personally. But also due to this being a first attempt at something of this scale, I had no ways of creating actual background scenery, which is why I went back after I finalized my first draft with adding some scenery to draw my space in.

With not only this being a first attempt, I'm proud of it and will for sure try and practice and build myself to be better, not in drawing but creating a landscape better for my stories.
