Pixar in a Box

 Instructions

This is all great information, and ideally you will watch it all, however, what I'd like you to do is pay special attention to the sections on: The Art of Story Telling, The Art of Lighting, Color Science, Virtual Cameras, and Patterns. List 10 things that you learned from all of these chapters.

What I learned:

  1.  One of the first that I learned about watching Pixar in a box is getting to see how everything is really made and how the frame to frame animation was made, and seeing the actual process of the films and how even before the technology we have now.
  2.  The math that goes into the making of these animations is astronomically nowhere where I thought it would be, in terms of these animations I knew there was SOME math, but at much geometry, physics, and algebra that goes into the animations and the problem solving and equations that are used.
  3. The story telling fundamentals that are used in Pixar's animations are really interesting. The way that they make their animations are always based around secret techniques that they have built over the years and theories that they have built over the years as well.
  4.  Another thing I learnt was the difficulty in 3D animation. To begin Ive always knew that 3D animation is a whole new beast, but when it comes to Pixar levels of difficult it just seems that there is no way in heck I can learn that, but the structure in timing, spacing, easing, and how the algorithms bring everything to life is absolutely mind breaking.
  5.  In animation artistically I'm not match to the levels of these artists in and out of Pixar, but learning the basics to animation and the principles of animation were a great way to start a newbie like me into the world of animation, while also helping me in my graphical and video animation.
  6.  The lighting and rendering that Pixar creates is new level to the knowledge that I have about lighting, the way they can simulate light and shadows on different materials just leaves me in awe. But shows me new perspectives on how to actually use lighting not only in a 2D standpoint, but also a 3D and photography standpoint.
  7.  I guess a neat thing about Pixar that I learnt about them and would incorporate In my own day to day work would be the way they pitch feedback and creative outlooks on work, not only do they do a amazing amount of refining feedback, but they always look for collaborative ways to fix the problem and are always helping each other each step of the way, not a list of things to lookout for and fix.
  8. A cool thing I learnt was the way to create swarm simulations like smoke, water ripples and schools of fish, and other cool effects.
  9. A cool thing to keep a mind out if wanting to work for Pixar or any animation work space is that animation is a concept for all ages and everyone is welcome. And that is relieving to hear especially with my being semi knowledgeable, and always hungry to learn more about the graphical design space.
  10.  And lastly A great piece of advice that I want myself and other to take away from all of this would be to go at your own pace. That really hit home with me when it was said because I am a type of person to dive into a new subject or new project without fully understanding the basic or rules that were laid out beforehand. But in terms of learning I feel that this was a big wake up call and would be a great piece of advice for people like me.
