Elements of Design Blog- Week 2
Welcome once again! Today's blog is one for the books for sure. It has been an interesting week for sure, with all that happened this week there has been some moments where I got to explore the world of composition and the great features that light room has to hold. And I would love to show you all that I had worked on so far and with enough introductions, my first project I decided to go for was Format.
My experience with format was a small step into this project, but I would soon realize there was a lot to hold with this assignment. At first I worked around the factors of figuring out angles for this certain image. I would start to look at different objects I had at my disposal, while reminding myself about the teachings of the first week. in Which I took this image.
This image at first started off with the raw image and importing into my collection of other images. While the raw image did have some crop in need to be done, but after a couple of adjustments I started to work well with the basic color adjustments and seeing how I bring more life on the image, with working on bring the exposure down a tad and bringing out the highlights and shadow of the image. I then worked on the color grading of the image with bringing out the temperature of the image and seeing how I can compliment the yellow and orange hints in the image. While this only being the basic adjustments I felt that I was satisfied with this image and decided to move onto my masking with only needing some radial gradient and inverting into to bring out the subject in the image and adding brush masks to bring out what the lamp is lighting up in the image, while still keeping the main focus on the lamp itself.
With Angle out of the way my second image came down to Line.
Line in the sense of all things was the same process as angle. But the difference being the focus point and where my masks has to go. With the beginning of the masking process I decided to add a linear gradient on where my shadows would need to be more profound, and where my light was actually coming in from. And with a bit of brush work on the windows to low the full exposure of the light coming in and bring out the glow. I came with a final result and it turned out as such.
After I was completed with my lines image I proceeded into my third image the Shape.
Shape was more of an interesting image. My mind was still in the same wavelength on angles and lines but there was more of a greater depth towards this image than the whole collection itself. With looking back at the image after I've had done all my adjustments, I wanted to see where i would be able to put my masks at and that's where I realized where the actual shapes of the image were at and seeing them made me grasp a different approach towards this image only focusing on bringing out the contrast and temperatures to guide you and make you wander to see all the different spaces and shapes there was in total for the image. And with this process finished I came to this end result.
And with the conclusion to my shape image I shifted to my value image.
Value was a sentimental piece. Out of all the images I have worked on my head always turned towards a caption for this piece. And I've always leaned into the more softer works when I started my photography journey. With this image I didn't want to bring out a complex image to make the whole feel of the image be "Value" but to make the image a simple piece where it still paints a value, but shows the soft undertones with not only the masking of the lighting, but also making the focus your imagination on the image. With the doorway being my main focus you have the power to think of a story for the image, which is why I took the picture and included it into my assignment.
With putting Value to an end, I went straight to work on my texture piece.
Texture was a goofy piece, but I loved how it turned out in the end. This is my pet ferret "Almighty". One day we decided to take them out for a stroll around the front and backyard, while at the same time doing a little cleaning day on all the cars and motorcycles in the garage. When I was helping out I got my cogwheel to start turning, and dashed to my camera to see if I snag some good pictures of these little guys. And with a little trial and error I stumbled on an opportunity and managed to get this amazing piece. While there wasn't much work done of the adjustments side of things I wanted to bring out the temperature and clarity on the image to make his fur and the grass really pop out and make it more calm and more focused on this little dude.
And finally getting done with the texture image, we bring the final piece out. Color.
Color was the funniest one out of them all. Firstly working with my siblings there is some goofing off to be involved regardless of the situation. But when we got to work, we GOT to work. And with having the image in my mind to go for a blue sort of "sadness" feel to the image I did some flash work with some color film on my flashlight and a tripod to put my phone on. I picked this image out of the whole photo shoot. What made this image stand out of the rest that I took of my brother for this was the positioning of the light and the angle that I managed to take this image in. While there wasn't much to work on the adjustment and masking side of things, I did make sure to really pop out the highlights on where the light hits the hoodie and make the temperature of softer, but still vibrant blue.
In conclusion. This project was one of the most fun I had with photography. The whole week going about ways that I can create images and pieces out of the most random objects, and grasping opportunities to create beautiful pieces was genuinely the most fun I had this week. But with the closing to this blog, I wanted to thank you all for tuning in and taking your time to read my blog. I appreciate your time and hope to see you guys all again. On the next one! 👋
