Creativity exercise - week 4

Hey y’all! Welcome back to another weekly blog. This week I wanted to shit some to things around so I decided to do some digging. I found some creativity exercise from "Caffeine for the creative mind" and I took a creativity exercise from it and wanted to share it with you guys. What better way to introduce a crazy exercise that’s all about taking what we think we know and flipping it upside down. The prompt goes like this: pick a topic, list three assumptions about it, reverse those assumptions, and then figure out how you’d actually make those reversals happen. It’s a way of shaking the dust off your usual thinking and seeing what new ideas fall out.

For this one, I picked “coffee shops.” Here’s where I landed:

  • Assumption 1: Coffee shops are places you go to wake up and get caffeine.

    • Reversal: A coffee shop that puts you to sleep instead.

    • Idea: A “wind-down café” that serves warm herbal blends, has dim lighting, hammocks, and calming music for nap sessions. You come out recharged without a drop of caffeine.

  • Assumption 2: Coffee shops are meant for quick stops or laptop work.

    • Reversal: A coffee shop where you can’t be in a hurry or work.

    • Idea: A “slow café” where phones and laptops are banned, and drinks are served in courses. You’re encouraged to stay, talk, and do nothing productive for a change.

  • Assumption 3: Coffee shops stick to the same style: modern, cozy, and familiar.

    • Reversal: A coffee shop that feels completely unpredictable every time you visit.

    • Idea: A “theme-shift café” where décor, menu, and music change daily one day it’s a jazz lounge, the next it’s a tropical shack. Keeps you coming back just for the surprise.

This exercise is simple on paper, but once you start flipping those “everybody knows” rules, it opens the door to some wild and genuinely fresh ideas. It’s kind of a reminder that just because something works a certain way doesn’t mean it has to. But like always each of these wekly blog has to come to an end, but I hope you guys had fun with this one, cause I sure did. And like always, Ill see you guys. On the next one! 👋
