Designing Emotion- Week 2

Hello everyone! Today I was tasked with a assignment that I would hold as one of my most challenging so far. This weeks project was orientated around emotion. To me emotion is one of the harder features that I struggle with as a designer. Emotion has been some of my greatest hurdles when it comes to designing, the thought process, the layer scheme, the image choice, the whole aspect what the emotion has to revolve under. But this weeks task was only to pick a song to design your piece around, and contact mainly on the emotion is gives off.

When it came down to main choice that I wanted to revolve around, my playlists are a mashup or every genre under the sun. My main motto when it comes to music is "If it sounds good, I'll like it" and ive stuck with that for most of my life. But that was just one of the many little hurdles that I got over, but when thinking about the choice for the project. It hit me. I went shuffling around my recently played and I finally found the artist of choice, Quadeca.                                                                                     Quadeca was a music YouTuber turned to full time musician. And over the last couple of years hes created some of great albums, but none where like what "SCRAPYARD" was like. SCRAPYARD was unlike any of his other albums. The mashup of experimental sounds, and story telling with each track weren't something that I've heard from him before. Ive known him for his more dark and drum heavy instrumentals. But with SCRAPYARD it resonated with me the most. And I wanted to show that to you all in the form of this project. But to be honest choosing the perfect song wasnt easy as well, many of his song on this albums are hits when it came to the Hyper-rock sound. But the song that I chose to show you all today was the greatest iteration of it yet.

The song choice out of his album was called "U TRIED THAT THING WHERE UR HUMAN". The beginning of this song starts very harsh. But the song has its pickup in tempo as you can tell he gets clear on what he wants to tell in this song, with the loud 808s and synths in the background. All the while hes singing about his attempts to save himself from mistakes, and from the many mishaps of trying to fit in with his self worth, and others around him. The 1 thing he feels throughout the whole song is 'helplessness'. The emotion this song portrays is truly tear jerking. And the more you stay focused on the lyrics the deeper it gets, you can hear this more when at certain points of the song his voice breaks, he cries to himself, he shuffles around the room laughing at himself. The pure talent and experimental usage that was put into not only this song, but the full album truly set me on a course, to try my best and display how his message was trying to be painted with the album in a whole.                                                                                                                                                          Throughout giving this album multiple listens I was certain, and my mind was clear on what I wanted to design when it came to this song. And it had a lot of my own physical emotions put into this project, cause the whole time the song was on repeat when making it. A lot of struggles were passed into making this final iteration of this design. But overall I'm proud of this final design.

Overall this project was a great challenge to tackle my hardships that I have as a designer and to really put forth the hurdles that I have in and out of digital design. This was an amazing assignment and would love to do more like this. But I thank you always for tuning in and checking out all the stuff I have to talk about and how they all come to life. I would love to see yall on the next one, and like always. On to! The next one! 👋
